Al Gore: The Poet Laureate of Climate Change
What, now he’s a friggin’ poet?
Excerpt: In his almost 30 years of crusading against global warming, Al Gore has worn a variety of hats. In roughly chronological order these include: congressman, senator, author, vice president, traveling evangelist, filmmaker, investment adviser, and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Now, with the publication of his new book, Our Choice, Gore has unveiled a fresh and most unexpected talent: the book’s opening chapter of concludes with a poem he wrote—21 lines of verse that are equal parts beautiful, evocative, and disturbing.
Here is how the poem begins:
One thin September soon
A floating continent disappears
In midnight sun
Vapors rise as
Fever settles on an acid sea
Full Story: Vanity Fair. Discuss: here
Our Al he was a warmer
Folks came from near and far
to hear our Al pontificate
on climate change and Hell
He always brought his Hockeystick
to emphasise his case
but the darned thing disintegrated
right in our poor Als face.
Now some folk say the’re sorry at Al’s awful fate
but we all know it won’t be, ST.Peter at the gate
When Al trancends this mortal life
care worn and and totally disgraced
He’ll go to Hell and abide in fire or CO2
Or some even Warmer Place
