Australia’s emissions could rise under ETS

Australia’s Herald Sun reports that government data appears to show that the Emissions Trading Ccheme (ETS) could not guarantee any emissions reduction. Australia’s emissions would actually rise from 553 million tonnes in 2000 to 585 million tonnes by 2020. In fact, modeling from the Treasury Department says Australia’s emissions don’t begin to fall under the ETS “until the mid-2030s”. And the target to cut emissions by 5 per cent is only reached by paying other countries to reduce their emissions.

What’s wrong with that?  It’s good intentions that count, not results. Just do the right thing, will you?
