Michael Mann got a free pass today by Penn State, and many of us wondered, “who will be the fall guy.” Well, here you go: Rajendra Pachauri.

The Times online reports the story:

The head of the UN’s climate change body is under pressure to resign after one of his strongest allies in the environmental movement said his judgment was flawed and called for a new leader to restore confidence in climatic science.

Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), has insisted that he will remain in post for another four years despite having failed to act on a serious error in the body’s 2007 report.

John Sauven, director of Greenpeace UK , said that Dr Pachauri should have acted as soon as he had been informed of the error, even though issuing a correction would have embarrassed the IPCC on the eve of the Copenhagen climate summit.

A journalist working for Science had told Dr Pachauri several times late last year that glaciologists had refuted the IPCC claim that Himalayan glaciers would disappear by 2035. Dr Pachauri refused to address the problem, saying: “I don’t have anything to add on glaciers.” He suggested that the error would not be corrected until 2013 or 2014, when the IPCC next reported.

Well, at least he can go to work for Geico.

(Apologies to the National Post. We promise to never again excerpt so much of an article. But this is one of the funniest damn stories we’ve ever read.)

The Prophet Mardi Tindal

We’ve always known man-made global warming believers are nuts. And have we got a story here that will prove it to you.

Mardi Tindal is the newly elected moderator of the United Church of Canada. Before going forward with the story, we just wanted to share a tidbit from the church’s website, on Mardi:

The Moderator invites you to become a green community leader by reflecting deeply on soul, community, and creation, and by taking practical steps in greening your lifestyle, home, and church building.

That’s enough for a story in itself, but wait until you read more about this whack job. You see, she was a delegate to the Climate Summit in Copenhagen, and her life is forever changed due to her disappoint of its failure. Not politically, but psychologically. But don’t worry, she says she is not in a true clinical depression, but rather an “anxious despair.” It began one day while she was and her husband drove to church in Brantford, Ontario:

“I simply wept. My tears were quiet, but I spoke through them, and I was being listened to. My husband said, ‘There is great power in what you have just said, and it is a powerful message that makes clear why you are weeping.’”

“And I said, ‘Doug, I’m weeping for the millions of lives that have been lost as a result of what did and did not happen in Copenhagen,” Ms. Tindal said. “My experience was that I had a place to go with my tears and my lament … It’s an expression of pain for the world’s suffering.”

The author of the article, Joseph Brean, writes:

Climate change could have “significant negative effects on global mental health,” according to a new scientific report in the journal Psychological Medicine. It predicts that many of these negative effects will be felt not by those who are already mentally ill (although they will likely bear the brunt), but also by otherwise healthy people, such as Ms. Tindal, who will suffer “psychological distress, anxiety and traumatic stress.”

The author, U.K. psychiatrist Lisa Page, cites “altered patterns of infectious disease, injuries from severe weather events, food and water scarcity, and population displacement” as mechanisms by which global warming could cause “an increase in the overall burden of mental disorder worldwide.”

Dr. Page cites “preliminary evidence” of more extreme possibilities: that suicide increases above a certain temperature threshold; that schizophrenia increases as populations become more urban; and that “impulsivity and aggression could be triggered during periods of hot weather.”

But wait, we don’t have any new problems of severe weather events, food and water scarcity, and population displacement–Tindal is depressed because she fears what she believes will happen.

The article continues:

At services this Sunday at more than 200 United churches across Canada, a letter by Ms. Tindal was read to her congregations, describing how she was “heartbroken because it was clear to me, as it was to many of you, that the talks in Copenhagen needed to succeed, that it is no longer safe for us to go on as we have before,” and urging them to do “whatever you can imagine” to reduce carbon emissions.

…

“Our moment of opportunity came and then went, and here we are now, the fate of civilization and of millions of the planet’s life forms hanging by the frayed thread of inaction,” she wrote.

And then comes the real proof of her insanity and delusion:

“Like the prophets, like those in our faith tradition who express their own lament because they understand God’s lament, yes, I have been lamenting what did and did not happen,” Ms. Tindal said in the interview. “But lament leads to imagination, and we move through lament to hope.”

Most striking is her identification with Martin Luther King, Jr., and his Letter from Birmingham Jail, with its era-defining declaration of the “moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws,” which she took to Copenhagen for inspiration.

“He refused to wait and called on everyone to act. I too believe the time for waiting has run out,” she wrote.

She compares “those who would say faith leaders have no place in addressing the issue of climate change” with the “white church leaders” who said Rev. King “should stick to his knitting.”

“What if, instead of racial segregation, King had spoken about high greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere? Would his words hold? It seems clear to me that they would ring loud and true,” she wrote.

The prophet Mardi Tindal: Nuts. Delusional. Self-absorbed. Global Warmer.

In a TimesOnline story today, Indian head of the UN climate panel Dr Rajendra Pachauri defended their on the embarrassing retraction of a prediction that Himalayan glaciers could disappear by 2035. But, he also warned that that there may be further errors.

Obviously feeling the heat, he reacted defensively:

“I know a lot of climate sceptics are after my blood, but I’m in no mood to oblige them. It was a collective failure by a number of people,” he said. “I need to consider what action to take, but that will take several weeks.
Global Warming didn’t really work out very well last year, did it? Such a shame too, it was supposed the year Copenhagen saved the world. PopularTechnology.net has posted some charts, and links to 375 articles that show just how damn bitter ass cold it is.

2009 was another year of global cooling, which saw numerous low temperature and high snowfall records smashed. The Dutch canals froze over for the first time in 12 years, record cold came to Al Gore’s home town and ironically a blizzard dumped snow on the Copenhagen convention where world leaders met to try and stop global warming. It was so cold that even the BBC was forced to ask, what happened to global warming? As Climategate would reveal, IPCC scientists had been hard at work hiding evidence of global cooling. Yet the observational evidence cannot be ignored.

Speaking of the Cophenhagen Climate Conference, if you need just one fact to prove how stupid these guys are, from Al Gore on down, just think about their choice of venues in which to hold the conference–way up north, in Denmark, at the beginning of winter? Now, there’s some real marketing smarts.

Ok, so two-thirds of the US has been covered by snow this winter. Very much the same has been seen across Europe, too. But I, like other climate commentators, keep hammering home the point that weather is not climate. Extreme occurrences of wind, rain, snow, warmth or cold that pass in a week, a month within a season do not, in themselves, prove or disprove climate change. However, climatologists do pay heed to what they term decadal trends, or weather events that persist for periods for up to ten years and beyond. It is by applying the decadal trend test that any skeptic can readily disprove the theory of catastrophic man-made climate change.

We do this by taking the decadal data and applying the scientific principle of “Disprovability” to the theory of anthropogenic global warming (AGW). For AGW to be a credible scientific theory it must show either (a) that a phenomenon always follows one or more rules, or, (b) it proposes a mechanism for a phenomenon that is reflected in one or more rules that are always followed, or (c) it specifies attributes of a phenomenon that are defined by one or more rules that are always followed.

The disprovability comes into play once the rules of the proposed theory are constructed (i.e. the theory of man made climate change states that increases in human-caused carbon emissions cause catastrophic global warming). Thus if there is no observable catastrophic climate change despite the fact CO2 levels are claimed to have risen 30%, then the theory is busted. A fair test has to be applied so that we can determine whether the theory is true for a particular trial. This means that we need a reliable trial period through which we can gather data to plug into the rule to see whether the rule works or not.

It is simply a principle of logic that the “always” part is disproved by a single exception but not proved by any number of verifications. You can have a theory that does not follow these principles, but if it can’t be tested it’s not a scientific theory by definition (i.e. alarmists cannot be allowed to claim that global warming causes global cooling – a ‘heads I win, tails you lose’ logical fallacy as per the Aristotelian method). Fortunately, for all skeptics we don’t need to conduct any further trials to bust the global warming theory under the definition of testability–the theory need only to have in principle an observable condition that would disprove it (e.g. a decadal climatic trend).

Decadal Trends

Here we can see what the decadal trends (acknowledgment: remiss.com) are showing for those data sets collected by MSU channel TLT, MSU/AMSU channel TMT, MSU/AMSU channel TTS, and MSU/AMSU channel TLS. Trend maps are computed over the time period for each channel that contains complete years of valid data. Globally averaged trends computed over latitudes from 82.5S to 82.5N (70S to 82.5N for channel TLT) are shown in the table below, and include data through November, 2009:

What the four channels of verifiable climate data show us is both an anomaly of some cooling and some warming but when the results are averaged by decade we see a net cooling, not warming. Sadly for the doomsayers, there is no evidence for any net warming, let alone catastrophic runaway warming attributable to man made emissions. These numbers don’t lie.

Our knowledge is thereby guided or constrained in the right direction by eliminating all the directions that don’t stand up to a test of their criteria against measured reality. Short-term weather events being misleading must not guide us. Sensible observers will take into account the more reliable decadal position. Thus, it is a fair and logical conclusion to deduce from the observed decadal climatic data that the Earth has shown hemispheric variability but based on the decadal data, we are hard pressed to find a link between climate and man-made CO2 emissions. But, more importantly, what it busted absolutely is that no catastrophic climate change has been caused by human emissions of carbon dioxide.

Should this be of any surprise to the core of climate scientists who provided their reports to the UN’s IPCC? No, because not one scientist cited by the IPCC either claims to have proved, nor foresaw, any “catastrophic” climate change. The word just doesn’t appear anywhere in the scientists findings. The word only shows up in idle speculation, in the bluff and bluster of policy makers and self-serving politicians. The British media, once so much in love with the environmental lobbyists of the left, are now starting to wake up to such facts. In one headline the Daily Express shouts loud, in upper case, about climate “FRAUD.”

In the article, climate author and expert, Professor Ian Plimer of Adelaide and Melbourne Universities, said there was a huge momentum behind the climate change lobby. Suggesting that many scientists are in it for the money, he said: “The climate comrades are trying to keep the gravy train going. Governments are also keen on putting their hands as deep as possible into our pockets. From the Climategate leaked emails this is what disgraced Professor Jones had to say:

“I hope I don’t get a call from congress ! I’m hoping that no-one there realizes I have a US DoE grant and have had this (with Tom W.) for the last 25 years.”

Have you ever taken your kids to a Build-A-Bear shop? You know, those innocent places in shopping malls where the kiddies can make custom bears. They also have a website for the children to go and play games and otherwise amuse themselves. And be indoctrinated in climate change.

The video above, part two of a three part series tells the kids that Christmas may be canceled this year due to Global Warming.
