Climate debate heats up in Australian politics: new Skeptic Party created
We have been keeping a close eye on developments with our skeptic friends in Australia. We recently published a fine Open Letter to Aussie politicians by attorney, Val Majkus and articles highlighting the superb analysis of the Climategate emails, by Australian physicist, Dr. John Costella.
Yet again, we feel it is our duty to help our fellow sceptics in Australia again by running this new Open Letter by Mr. Malcolm Roberts. The climate debate is really heating up Down Under. Some Aussie commentators are predicting that Prime Minister Rudd may have to call a “double dissolution” election over his blocked climate bill.
We are very well aware that Australia is likely to be the first country in the world to have an election fought on the climate issue (even though both major parties now have policies to reduce carbon emissions by 5% by 2020, they are fighting each other, and will not compromise). Keen climate observers may recall that the Leader of the Aussie Opposition was ousted just before Copenhagen because he was going to support the Government’s cap-and-trade legislation.
In our respective democratic nations, voters are feeling growing dissatisfaction that they are not being given a voice in government on anti-eco-fascist legislative policies. Australia has set a new trend that other nations may follow by instituting a Climate Sceptics Party to contest the next parliamentary elections. The party explicitly represents climate scepticism.
The party has been formed to conduct a strictly self-funding grassroot, internet-viral type campaign in an attempt at winning one or more seats.
We support Malcolm’s fine efforts and we also seek to endorse the aims of the newly-formed Australian Climate Sceptic Party. Here is a copy of Malcolm’s letter in full:
To all federal Members of Parliament:
The Weekend Australian newspaper (Sa.19.12.09) published a major article headlined “Scientists ‘crying wolf’ over coral”. Quotes:
“Professor Rudd said scientists who predicted corals would be mostly extinct by mid-century had a credibility problem because the Great Barrier Reef was in ‘bloody brilliant shape.” “Ten years ago, I was told that the coral was going to die from sediment, and we have proved that is complete rubbish”.
Its editorial stated: “The Queensland tourist attraction is proving its resilience”.
During 2008 winter’s record low temperatures, ABC News reported coral bleaching due to cold. The reef was adapting to natural weather variations as it’s done for millions of years.
UN IPCC Chairman Rajendra Pachauri is reportedly under investigation in Britain for ‘very serious financial irregularities’. Separately, he has reportedly used bogus claims of alarm to secure millions of dollars for TERI, of which he is a director. He has many huge conflicts of interests now publicly exposed. The scientist who made the statement of unfounded alarm at the centre of the UN IPCC’s Himalayan scandal works for TERI.
Our free-spending Prime Minister gave Pachauri’s TERI one million dollars. Senator Wong gave almost $50,000 in a grant entitled ‘Influencing International Climate Change’.
Nature controls global climate through galactic, solar, planetary, oceanic, atmospheric drivers and their interactions. Grants to TERI only influence climate spin.
Before spending millions of taxpayer dollars on bogus global warming claims during the financial crisis, why did our free-spending Prime Minister and Senator Wong not do their due diligence?

We thank Malcolm for keeping us updated, as other contributors from Australia have been doing. We note that there is not a single scientist sitting in the Australian Parliament. May we suggest that in the public interest, more is done to encourage scientists to come forward and get into politics?

[...] New skeptics party created [...]
The recent and current AGW policies of our major parties have placed us in a dilemma. Like others with very strong views on particular issues we have to decide where and how to apply our lever. I can’t speak for Austrailia but here in the USA we have not yet developed suffcient mass to campaign successfully on our issue. Polling shows that we have enough skeptics in the general population to attract the Republican Party but it hasn’t happened just yet. They are hedging their bets but hoping we win the media battle which will allow them to support us openly. I speculate that our best short-term hope for turning our momentum into a route lies in the general economy. If a majority feels that things are really improving they will go along with further but limited legislation built on this fraud. “What the hell” they will think “the government wastes money on lots of things” Defeat of the Left on the economic issue will lead to their being placed back into the ideological cold for a majority. Of course they will retain enough true believers to fight a long rear-guard action. I can’t wait to until I have the opportunity to smirk at the first lefty who expresses consternation at being considered a whack-job for believing in AGW.
I’m an Aussie and as the election (no date announced yet) draws nearer I think it is becoming increasingly likely that our current PM Kevin Rudd will be removed from office. His ETS (cap’n'trade) is flawed and our economy which prior to the financial crisis was in world leading shape is now buried in debt. The man is as useless as Obama, but while Obama makes a fine orator our PM Kevin Rudd just puts you to sleep.
RE: Tom R. “I can’t wait until I have the opportunity to smirk at the first lefty who expresses consternation at being considered a whack-job for believing in AGW.” Good one! I’m still grinning over the thought
RE: Greg “Obama, a great orator” I miss that everytime,….. I’m too dumb founded by his total BS. Like his recent plan to double our exports, like Barack Obonehead is going to flip a switch in the oval office and make that happen.
I applaud Malcolm; he’s a formidable and tireless campaigner; I hope all other Aussies will join him and other campaigners writing to our elected representatives; newspapers; commenting on blogs; I have concentrated my attack on the Coalition MP’S and Senators including independent Senators including Senator Fielding; and today I have lodged a complaint with the ABC that it is failing to comply with its code of conduct and editorial policies in respect to climatechange particularly based on a 7.30 rep last night in which Prof Oppenheimer was interviewed; if anyone else wants a copy of that complaint I’m happy to post it together with the e mail address to which it should be sent; anyway congratulations Malcolm; you and others like you are to be applauded
Val, we salute your fine efforts, too. Good luck with your latest complaint with ABC.
If I may make one slight correction to your article – there is actually one scientist in the Australian Parliament. Dr. Dennis Jensen a member of the Liberal Party who is a physicist and an outspoken critic of the science of Climate Change proponents, making a number of speeches outlining his well-reasoned rejection of the claims of the IPCC.
Bulldog,
It was just a little while ago that PM Rudd and his friends said you were all going to burn up down there!

I just received an email from Friend in England, he’s an avid gardener and remined me (again) coldest winter there in 30 years. Of course now we learn of record snow fall for 2009-2010 fall winter. You’d think this would cause even the most loyal useful idiot to pause and reconsider?
There’s some underlying mechanicals that scare me. Governments seem to have lost all knowledge of cause an effect. Take this zero interest loan BS, what it does is deny a critical element of our financial systems (Pension Funds) to make a prudent investment!
Desparate to find any source of earnings, fund managers turn to Junk offerings in hopes that the pension fund can survive. We all know they can not burn principal forever! Some have bought into carbon credits and green energy schemes that will never produce a profit. So it is that our Governments are running the same PONZI scheme that you and I would be tossed in prision for running. But they are also ‘stealing’ investment opps at the same time! I believe some of the loudest voices supporting AGW are up to their necks in insanely stupid investments. I’m sure we could find investments in ‘over unity devices’ in there too
I said nothing here that a Denier doesn’t already know, I just hope we have enough numbers to vote these CRIMINALS out of office. We all know you can’t cure a drinking habit by drinking 3 times as much…
I hope Dr. Dennis Jensen gets the support he needs.
