Diogenes: looking for an honest scientist

Diogenes, a famous Greek philosopher, used to carry a lamp during the day and claim to be looking for an honest man.  Were he around today he’d be looking for an honest scientist.

Seems Britain’s Chief Scientist, Professor John Beddinggon has a “slight” conflict of interest according to the Times Online:

THE government’s chief scientist and his wife have made £500,000 in the past year in a company overseeing commercial fishing that allegedly threatens one of the world’s most pristine marine environments

Conservationists claim that a fishery managed by the company in British territorial waters in the Indian Ocean has been catching threatened species including blue sharks and manta rays. It is estimated that between 2003 and 2008 more than 120,000 were caught as “bycatch” from commercial tuna fishing.

Seems he’s a real hypocrite:

In his role as a £165,000-a-year senior civil servant, Beddington has warned of the dangers of overfishing the oceans..

I know there are honest scientist about, but if Diogenes were alive today I think he might be wandering around with that lamp for a long time trying to find them.

Let us be fair. There are thousands of honest dedicated scientists around.BUT their views and papers have been shut out by the dishonest media who have lately concentrated on dishing out lies and inaccurate or sheer falsified reports masquerading as reliable and truthful reports to obtain financial bounty from the various politicians and others in a position to bestow fortunes(=coming from the public whose very interests are being sacrificed)on the owners of the “news” media.
