German Physicists Trash Global Warming “Theory”
For any non-scientist interested in the climate debate, there is nothing better than a ready primer to guide you through the complexities of atmospheric physics – the “hardest” science of climatology. Here we outline the essential points made by Dr. Gerhard Gerlich, a respected German physicist, that counter the bogus theory of Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW).
Before going further, it’s worth bearing in mind that no climatologist ever completed any university course in climatology–that’s how new this branch of science really is. Like any new science the fall-back position of a cornered AGW proponent is the dreaded “appeal to authority” where the flustered debater, out of his or her depth, will say, “Well, professor so-and-so says it’s true – so it must be true.” Don’t fall for that proxy tree-ring counter’s gambit any longer. Here is the finest shredding of junk science you will ever read.
In a recently revised and re-published paper, Dr Gerlich debunks AGW and shows that the IPCC “consensus” atmospheric physics model tying CO2 to global warming is not only unverifiable, but actually violates basic laws of physics, i.e. the First and Second Law of Thermodynamics. The latest version of this momentous scientific paper appears in the March 2009 edition of the International Journal of Modern Physics.
The central claims of Dr. Gerlich and his colleague, Dr. Ralf Tscheuschner, include, but are not limited to:
1) The mechanism of warming in an actual greenhouse is different than the mechanism of warming in the atmosphere, therefore it is not a “greenhouse” effect and should be called something else.
2) The climate models that predict catastrophic global warming also result in a net heat flow from atmospheric greenhouse gasses to the warmer ground, which is in violation of the second law of thermodynamics.
Essentially, any machine which transfers heat from a low temperature reservoir to a high temperature reservoir without external work applied cannot exist. If it did it would be a “perpetual motion machine” – the realm of pure sci-fi.
Gerlich’s and Tscheuschner’s independent theoretical study is detailed in a lengthy (115 pages), mathematically complex (144 equations, 13 data tables, and 32 figures or graphs), and well-sourced (205 references) paper. The German physicists prove that even if CO2 concentrations double (a prospect even global warming advocates admit is decades away), the thermal conductivity of air would not change more than 0.03%. They show that the classic concept of the glass greenhouse wholly fails to replicate the physics of Earth’s climate. They also prove that a greenhouse operates as a “closed” system while the planet works as an “open” system and the term “atmospheric greenhouse effect” does not occur in any fundamental work involving thermodynamics, physical kinetics, or radiation theory. All through their paper the German scientists show how the greenhouse gas theory relies on guesstimates about the scientific properties involved to “calculate” the chaotic interplay of such a myriad and unquantifiable array of factors that is beyond even the abilities of the most powerful of modern supercomputers.
The paper’s introduction states it neatly:
(a) there are no common physical laws between the warming phenomenon in glass houses and the fictitious atmospheric greenhouse effects, (b) there are no calculations to determine an average surface temperature of a planet, (c) the frequently mentioned difference of 33 degrees Celsius is a meaningless number calculated wrongly, (d) the formulas of cavity radiation are used inappropriately, (e) the assumption of a radiative balance is unphysical, (f) thermal conductivity and friction must not be set to zero, the atmospheric greenhouse conjecture is falsified.
This thorough debunking of the theory of man made warming disproves that there exists a mechanism whereby carbon dioxide in the cooler upper atmosphere exerts any thermal “forcing” effect on the warmer surface below. To do so would violate both the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics. As there is no glass roof on the earth to trap the excess heat, it escapes upward into space.Thus we may conclude that the common sense axioms are preserved so that the deeper the ocean, the colder the water and heat rises, it does not fall. QED.

Great, another website that caters to the lunatics who want to pretend that greenhouse gases cannot cause climate change. History has proven the results of climate change time and again, as volcanoes in the past have spewed ash in the atmosphere that caused climate change that resulted mass extinctions. If one volcano is enough to kill off 99% of the species on the planet, as archaeologists have postulated from volcanoes like Toba (and more recent Krakatoa), then why is it out of reach to think that millions of tons of CO2 produced by billions of people over the last 200 years can not result in problems as well?
I think the real junk science is taking this one guy’s
‘conclusion’, and siding with the one case and ignoring the multitudes of data from other sources that confirm the theory. Just like taking the emails from U. of Anglica, and ignoring the NASA evidence and the several other independent studies that still confirm the theories. Science is about taking all the evidence, not just concluding based on one or two outliers.
And my answer to those of you who complain about having to add expensive equipment to clean up your business is that you have had a free ride long enough. Why do you have the right to pollute and dump your trash and pollution and make the rest of us clean up your mess or suffer with the consequences, instead of taking that responsibility for yourself? You are selfish, and irresponsible, and should be forced to pay for your own trash clean up, just like I have to pay for my trash clean up.

Sorry, it has been factually determined by multiple news agencies that the CRU hack has produced no evidence of scientific fraud on the part of AGW researchers. Plenty of fraud found on the part of the denialists, however.

You hit the nail on the head Mikey…they have no common sense and since their expertise is in such a narrow field, do not see the big picture, they do all their consulting in their little club, and do not collaborate with others outside of their agenda. They do not take into consideration space weather or the sun. The egos and competition for funding is so great, that they think they have all the answers, and that the rest of us are ignorant and stupid.
Trash the Global Warming Theory. We all know the earth has over time warmed and cooled and warmed again. Do all those nut jobs out there who consider themselves scientists (government and academic failures) who are trying to make a name for themselves really have any facts? Not up to this point. Thank God the sun keeps us warm. But, you all need to watch out for the meteors which will destroy us! Doomsday is coming. Meanwhile, how about just becoming better stewards of our environment? And to the Africans, why should we send you money to pay for our pollution? You just keep chopping down trees, burning them and adding to pollution, too. Give Americans credit: we already sent our jobs and worst polluting industries to China. We cut our pollution. And Africa, don’t send us any more of your dust. What most people overlook is the fact that NASA has found and monitored a Heat Vent around the equator which opens when temperature rises and vents excess heat back to space. The heat vent has been active for a long time. It gets real tiresome when people keep harping on the global warming and they know none of the facts which science has given us. Also if you read the book Unstoppable Global Warming Every 1500 years by Singer you will get a real the real science from many different sources. These are not Singers theories but legitimate scientific research not some fantasy dreamed up and placed before the public as if it is a real threat. It is a real blessing to see that cooler heads are prevailing with the above article. Thank you

Is it not possible to admit that this system now is a giant out-of control squirrel cage of production/consumption that threatens to devour the planet? Should we not be trying to work towards a system that provides for our needs but that doesn’t continue to push the envelope in all directions? Even if AGW is not happening (which the evidence surely says is) wouldn’t it make sense to stop what we’re doing to the planet?

The final say on global warming, whatever the cause if it does exist, is the ice-cap masses. The heat of the arguments about this evoke an image of people on the deck of a settling Titanic arguing about the importance of why it’s settling. If it is, there’s a local problem. If it isn’t, what are we arguing about?
From what I can see of the ice data, there’s reason for concern without regard for the mechanism. Even if human activity is tipping the system into instability I doubt that this contribution can be modified significantly (think dogs in a lifeboat with limited food supply trying to work out a system of rationing), or that modification in any feasible degree could stop what’s already begun. Better that we direct our collective effort in either designing and providing low-cost flotation devices or improving social skills in a dire situation so that it doesn’t play out like a Cormac McCarthy novel. It’s reason to thank God that you’re over sixty.

I’m new in the neighbourhood so maybe I missed something Jason might have said previously..but what I take from his post that you are referring to is that we have, for too long, treated the planet as a giant larder from which we take what we want and then as a dumpster into which we freely dump our waste. This is thought of as ‘external’ to the cost of the goods that we produce and is somehow ‘free’. And I agree with his suggestion that business as usual is no longer on. This means for us, the consumers, as well as all the development and entrepeneurial/business types.
I think that AGW – along with several other environmental parameters – is telling us that the concept of infinite growth on a finite planet is not so much an economic system as a disease and I really don’t know why you seem to defensive about this fact. After all, we are all in this together. And soon there will be a couple of billion more joining us.
Rather than pissing contests where one side presents its scientists and the other side does the same and everybody gets lost in a hail of rhetoric, it seems we would be a lot better off if we could see that our collective asses are on the line here and spend more time thinking about what we could/should do. And that means – among other things – that we get off the socialist world dominating government conspiracy horseshit and start dealing with the real world consequences of what we’re facing as a species.
In any case, even if AGW is not happening, (and I believe there really is no doubt that it is..glaciers disappearing, sea level rising, Arctic ice melting, migratory habits changing etc etc..) we need to kick the fossil fuel habit as soon as possible for a multitude of other reasons.
An interesting aside..to A.W. Murphy… What, pray tell, is the “Gore/Hansen Theorem”..? I’ve not heard of this before.
Another brief question for A. W. Murphy..could you please point me to the evidence for dismissing the Mann Hockey Stick graph? I’ll have to check again, but I’m quite sure the original questions regarding this graph have been refuted.

It’s sad. I was so looking forward to spending my remaining years in subtropical New Jersey. Human beings are not supposed to live in such frigid conditions. The earth is supposed to be warmer. MY computer model says so. This argument is not between two groups of scientists. And if history is any judge of future events, they will win. Greenpeace the new face of the communist party has convinced the gullible youth of today that this is a real crisis and they are willing to give up there rights, and yours, to further a world government, that they and us will have no say in.

This reminds me of a Penn and Teller show where one of their operatives was on the street signing up “enviromentalists”, telling them that dihydrogen monoxide was polluting our environment, that it was being found in lakes and rivers – it was even being found in people’s sweat! The petition they were signing was to ban the use of dihydrogen monoxide. She was actually getting people to sign it, people who were all up in arms over this new “pollutant”.
For you left-wingers out there – dihydrogen monoxide is of course water.
Its a great example of what is happening now – liberals who are passionately supporting something they know nothing about. All that passion is based on unsupported opinion.
The same can be said for their political point of view – this blind devotion to a party that has been so destructive here in the US as well as abroad -

These same type of people are the ones who refuse to take an honest look at the climate – they would rather use the climate to further their political ends – as a frightened populace is easy to manipulate.
It violates your list to think of ‘Democrats’ as being liberal. Why then would you refer to them as such or think of the parties as being different than a ‘Heads I Win,Tails You Lose’ proposition ?
