"lost" raw data and/or the calculations used to adjust the raw data seems to be catching faster than H1N1. "If it walks like a duck, qacks like a duck, and flies like a duck it's a duck" How would Madoff have responded to a request for the raw data he was basing the high returns on? First a stall and then "I acidentally flushed that data the last time I took a crap"

This just further underlines what I have expected all along: that academics who do the analysis of the temperature data are the last people who should be entrusted with keeping its integrity. Given the sheer magnitude of the decisions being made off these datasets they should be given the same respect and protections as afforded to economic or population data.

Further, its not as if we can rerun the 'experiment' or travel back in time and take the measurements again - the data is corrupted and unrecoverable. People should be fired over this.

Knowing the raw data was "lost", NZ was only a handful of countries, that signed up to Copenhagen accord on reducing CO2 emissions by Sunday's deadline. NZ citizens will not be happy campers when they discover that they have been shafted by their Government.
