Phil Jones wants your pity

Professor Phil Jones told The Sunday Times that he had thought about killing himself several times. The Times says of the scientist at the center of the Climategate scandal:

The incident has taken a severe toll on his health. He has lost more than a stone in weight and disclosed he is on beta-blockers and using sleeping pills. He said the support of his family, and especially the love of his five-year-old granddaughter, had helped him to shake off suicidal thoughts: “I wanted to see her grow up.”

Phil, we don’t feel sorry for your self-induced trauma. We have kids and grandkids too, and we’d like to see them grow up in a free and honest world, free from people like you.

    Dear All,
Dr. Jones has behaved in a very bad, dishonest way in the whole climategate-affair. But nevertheless I’m astonished at the total absence of condemnation of the death-threats he received in the posts and reactions on this blog.
The man needs to be prosecuted, but no one has the right to threathen his life or his family. That’s simply crazy! Climatesceptics should not be receiving threats, but neither should AGW-believers.

We only have Phill Jones’ word for it that he has been threatened.
The rest of it, the gaunt pallor of his skin, loss of appetite, and general mopyness, that sounds to me like the symptoms of a guilty conscious.
Perhaps he would be better served talking to his analysist instead of whining to reporters.

      • Kees Bruin says:

Yes, you may be right that Dr. Jones is making up things about death threats. After all, he’s been making up things before…
But that still leaves the problem that no one had condemned the threats as such (without questioning their authenticety).
What I mean is, that the debate about climatechange is not served with threats or demonising opponents. We need facts, true scientific debate, not emotions and name calling. Polarisation leeds nowhere.

          You have to be kidding.

If you are kidding this is my answer.
Polarity is a well established scientific principle. What are you, some kind of monopole believer?

If you are not kidding this is my answer.
Have you ever met Joe Romm, Richard Littlemore, George Moinbat, Dana Milbank, David Roberts?
There’s literally a forest of blogs in dire need of your anti – polarization message. Like here A response to teabaggers.
Dave “we should have war crimes trials for these bastards — some sort of climate Nuremberg” Roberts is in desperate need of your counsel.

          • Kees Bruin says:

I’m not kidding, of course. I have been a climate sceptic for a long time. And I’m certainly aware of all the mischief, threathening, totalitarian inclination etc. coming from the AGW-camp. All I wanted to say is, that the other side of the debate, the sceptics, would do well not to use the same stupid, unproductive and low down tactics of the global warming crowd. And, yes, it is certain that “a forest of blogs is in dire need of my anti-polorization message”, as you put it. That message, however, is meant for both sides of the debate.

Could we just sent Al gore and his fellows to Siberia, and keep them there until Global Warming reach there? by their calculations, in no more than 5 years they could be tanning on the SUN and sitting confrtably by the beach without any clothes…

  3. Marty69 says:

Per Climategate emails :- Phil Jones forwards to Mike Mann an email advising the sudden death of skeptic John Daly, quoting “In an odd way this is cheering news!”

And he wants our sympathy for himself !!!!!!!!!!!!! Gotta be havin’ a larf surely.

  4. ADE says:

This creature was not the only person or organisation or government involved in this conspiracy.
The architects of this scam should be made public, stripped of office and prosecuted for crimes against the people.

  5. Ed Moran says:

“In an odd way, this is cheering news!”

How many billions have been wasted on computer models?

How many lives would have been saved or vastly improved if the money had been spent providing clean water or electricity in some of the poorest countries on Earth?

No, I have no sympathy for a man who is happy wrecking the careers of anyone who doesn’t toe the AGW line.

  6. Tom Roe says:

The “death threat” lie is an old ploy for sympathy. Usually it includes “against my children” who are playing on the floor as the camera pans the cozy livingroom. Give us a break Phil. You’re a real piece to trot out some crap like this after you’ve gloated at the death of a skeptic, conspired to trash the reputations of people better than yourself, and committed a massive fraud against every person on the planet. Yes,yes. You were on the side of the angels. To the poster who worried that we had not expressed opposition to death threats: we oppose anyone making threats of violence or death threats to anyone else.

  7. steve crouch says:

Truly from the bottom of my AGW denialist heart, it’s a pity poor ol’ Phil wasn’t honest from data set one, and an even bigger pity he hasn’t been honest for a single nano-second since.

As to threats, imagined, claimed or otherwise; poor ol’ Phil has recourse to the same rights and entitlements available to us honest folk and ripped off taxpayers under the “Rule of Law” commonly found in truly free and honest societies which will in turn hopefully consign him and his cronies to a couple of stretches as a guest of Her Majesty
