We are heartened to see the momentum behind a new ballot campaign to suspend California’s landmark global-warming law.

Supporters have “solid commitments” of nearly $600,000 to pay signature gatherers for the November initiative aimed at delaying curbs on the greenhouse gas emissions of power plants and factories until the state’s unemployment rate drops.

“We are on fire,” said Assemblyman Dan Logue (R-Marysville), a sponsor of the proposed initiative. “People are calling from all over the country. This will be the most intense campaign the state has seen in 50 years.”

Climategate’s home state is California. We can tell you for certain, people are angry, angrier than hell. At Obama, taxes, and illegal immigration, spending, and all the green shit crammed down our throats. The hippie state is finding its inner Ronald Reagan again.

The author of California Senate Bill 518, Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach), says “‘free’ parking has significant social, economic, and environmental costs.” And he wants it stopped!

Hey citizen, you won't find Free Parking in the Constitution. So pay up.

The California state senator who two years ago tried to make it easier for communists to teach in public schools, has introduced a new bill that would incentivize local governments to begin abolishing free parking spaces within their jurisdictions. That’s right, the goal is to make it so difficult for drivers to find parking that they give up their earth-killing vehicles in favor of eco-friendly public transportation. Or ride a bike. Or walk.

The author of Senate Bill 518, Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach), says “‘free’ parking has significant social, economic, and environmental costs.”

So does spewing bullshit, senator.

First they intend to horrify tenants at the cost of free parking in their lots by forcing the itemization of each space in the lease.

Second–and this is the real guts of the bill–it creates a crazy new point scheme for the city or county to “encourage” cooperation of property owners in abandoning parking. If the local government earns enough points, it gets rewarded by the state. If 20 points are earned, local government gets a cap-and-trade credit; if 50 points are earned they get a 5% bonus in competitive state infrastructure programs.

Everyone wins but the citizens who like lower taxes, less government and FREE PARKING.

So what’s the excuse they give the public for this bill? Yup, you guessed it: global warming. And some wonder why governments of all levels are pushing climate change, despite its crumbling “evidence.”

Dan Logue is collecting signatures for the "The Global Warming Solutions Act" and initiative which would suspend California's cap-and-trade law that begins in 2012.

Climategate.com’s home state of California is in serious trouble. After years of overspending and environmental do-gooding, we’re broke, we’re unemployed, and we’re still mostly out of our minds. But we are seeing the stark economic conditions bringing some sanity back to the great political middle of the Golden State. And we think it could be enough of an awakening to actually garner enough support to pass a ballot initiative that would repeal our own version of a cap-and-trade carbon tax.

Our RINO governator Arnold Schwarzenegger passed the original law in 2006. when our 5% unemployment rate helped the majority say yes to just about anything with the word green in it. The law requires that starting in 2012 we must begin to bring down carbon emission to 1990 levels by 2020.

Well, now one out of eight of us are out of work (and that’s just the official number), and we face tens of billions of dollars in deficits in the coming years. State, county and city workers actually could lose their “lifetime” jobs. The mood has changed, and people are paying attention to fiscal matters.

Enter Republican Assemblyman Dan Logue. He is collecting signatures for a ballot initiative that he has very cleverly named, “The Global Warming Solutions Act.” Considering many of the not-so-intelligent greenies we have here who walk into the ballot booth completely unprepared, and simply vote on a proposition title, it should garner a few extra million votes by those who actually oppose it. Well done, Dan.

The initiative itself is very simple: it would suspend the cap-and-trade law Ahnuld and Company passed, until the unemployment rate in California falls below 5.5%. He is aiming for this November’s ballot and we think he’ll make it on rather easily.

What’s at stake? Here’s how the Wall Street Journal puts it:

A 2009 study by economists at the California State University at Sacramento and commissioned by the California Small Business Roundtable found that the implementation costs “could easily exceed $100 billion” and that the program would raise the cost of living by $3,857 per household each year by 2020. So much for the free green lunch.

The law all but encourages outsourcing to Nevada, Texas, China and India. Even the liberal Sacramento Bee, which supports the law, says that policy makers should be “candid about the real costs of the transition it is contemplating. . . . Industries that are energy-intensive will move elsewhere.”

Meanwhile, a new study commissioned by the Governor’s Office of Small Business Advocacy estimates that the direct cost of current California regulation is $175 billion, or nearly twice the size of the state general fund budget and about $134,000 per small business each year. The Golden State already has the second most business-unfriendly regulatory climate in the nation, after New Jersey and before the cap-and-trade law.

The battle will be hard-fought. Silicon Valley is filled with companies that are aligned ideologically, financially and politically with the green movement. As Al Gore sinks in credibility, he can still count on his Silicon Valley friends to stay with him and his schemes until the bitter end. And there is also the very powerful California Teachers Association, which spends huge sums on campaigns to thwart any initiative that saves money or makes common sense. But this year, with the state threatening to cut government jobs, maybe even these voting blocks could begin to crumble as people think harder about the consequences of their votes.

If you’d like to help by gathering signatures, donating money, or just telling him to keep it up, please go to his Dan Logue’s website.

Mr. Logue, if you are reading this, if we can help in any way, just let us know, we’re right down the coast from you.

Normally we'd put our money on the Terminator if a fight broke out with him and anyone else, but this time he may have met his match with a tough broad from up north, way up north.

Normally we’d put our fight money on the Terminator, but this time he may have met his match with a tough broad from up north, way up north. Arnold Schwarzenegger, while in Copenhagen, took a shot at her in a Financial Times interview, for daring to question man-made climate change, and accused her of running her recent Op-ed on cap-and-trade as a publicity stunt:

“You have to ask: what was she trying to accomplish? Is she really interested in this subject or is she interested in her career and in winning the (Republican presidential) nomination? You have to take all these things with a grain of salt.”

He also intended this charge on Good Morning America at Palin:

“I think there are people that just don’t believe in fixing and working on the environment,” he said. “They don’t believe there is such a thing as global warming, they’re still living in the Stone Age, which is OK, we need people like that, too,” he said.

Palin, never one to back down from a fight, returned fire by posting her shot back at him on her Facebook page. She pointedly blamed the governor’s environmental policies as the cause for California’s deep economic problems:

“Why is Governor Schwarzenegger pushing for the same sorts of policies in Copenhagen that have helped drive his state into record deficits and unemployment?” she wrote. “I was among the first governors to create a sub-cabinet to deal specifically with climate change. While I and all Alaskans witness the impacts of changes in weather patterns firsthand, I have repeatedly said that we can’t primarily blame man’s activities for those changes. And while I did look for practical responses to those changes, what I didn’t do was hamstring Alaska’s job creators with burdensome regulations so that I could act “greener than thou” when talking to reporters.”

As Californians here at Climategate.com, we can tell you she is absolutely right, and it’s time he and environmental extremism in our state are called out on the national stage.
