Telegraph: Cold weather “doesn’t undermine global warming science.” Really, then why all the scare tactics you use when it get hot?

The Telegraph article title is Cold weather ‘doesn’t undermine global warming science’. Its subhead declares “The current cold weather gripping the UK does not undermine the fact the world is warming, experts said today.”

Stephen Dorling, of the University of East Anglia’s school of environmental sciences, said “it was wrong to focus on single events – whether they were cold snaps or heat waves – which were the product of natural variability.”

Really, Mr Dorling? Really? First of all, we learned this tactic from you and your pals, who during any heat wave, hurricanes, earthquakes, droughts, hell, even snow in Dubai, come out and scream GLOBAL WARMING. And now some of your friends are even saying the reason you are freezing your ass of in the UK is due to global warming. Hell, global warming (where they are similarly freezing to death) is going to make entire communities of Peruvians extinct, we just learned this week. So, don’t cry at us having some fun at the expense of warmers.

For extra laughs, he tells this gem, “climate was similar to personal finance, where people could have good months and bad months in terms of their spending – for example being frugal in January after Christmas expenses – but if their salary was falling their bank account would be in trouble in the long run.” We wonder how much government grant money was used to come up with that cute analogy.

The article continues: “The Met Office’s Barry Gromett said December and January’s cold weather was ”within the bounds of natural variability” within a global trend of rising temperatures – in which 2009 is set to be the fifth warmest year on record.” Is this the same Met Office that just predicted a “mild winter” and has been enormously wrong for years?

And what article would be complete without this untruth from Mr. Dorling? “The last decade was the warmest on record, with the last three each warmer than the previous 10 years.”

Stephen Dorling of the University of East Anglia? We know the name of that university sounds familiar. Where have we heard it before?

The cold weather may or may not undermine the global warming science but the quality of people as was revealed to us undermines OUR FAITH and TRUST in many branches of science. That is one of the tragedies.

From The Independent on 20 March 2000 we got the headline: “Snowfalls are now just a thing of the past”. According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”.

So anyway it turns out we are screwed and global warming is always causing the effect, no matter what the effect is. We can not predict the climate, at least not accurately.

@Patriot — later in that article (conveniently cut from the snippet shown in your link) it says this: ‘Heavy snow will return occasionally, says Dr Viner, but when it does we will be unprepared. “We’re really going to get caught out. Snow will probably cause chaos in 20 years time,” he said.’ Isn’t that pretty much what’s happening this year in England?

Anyway, I think Dr. Viner was either quoted out of context (a hedge he made before the quote was perhaps omitted) or else he just overstated the case. But I find it hard to believe a qualified scientist would claim outright with 100% certainty that some climate phenomenon would be witnessed “within a few years”. There’s simply to much uncertainty and weather variability to make such a claim with such a short time frame attached, even if the evidence were 100% clear that such a phenomenon would ultimately occur.

…”So anyway it turns out we are screwed and global warming is always causing the effect, no matter what the effect is….”

By George, I think you’ve got it..global warming will cause chaotic and unpredictable extreme weather..we’ve broken thru the barrier..weather is not climate. Well done, lad.

Tune in to weatheraction and get a true forecast.
Goverment should shut down met.office and contract out to this company. this would save £££’s grit and lives.

  4. Are you angry about this obvious RICO Act Climate Change fraud and the national media’s complicity in the cover-up, misinformation, reframing and misdirection of the issue and the related “carbon derivatives” market Obama’s Administration is spinning up? Take responsibility and take action. STOP all donations to the political party(s) responsible for this fraud. STOP donations to all environmental groups which funded this Global Warming propaganda campaign with our money, especially The Environmental Defense Fund. They have violated the public trust. KEEP donations local, close to home. MAKE donations to Oklahoma’s Senator Inhofe, the only politician to stand firmly against this obvious government/media coordinated information operation (propaganda) targeted at its own people. People that government leaders and employees are sworn to protect. WRITE your state and federal representatives demanding wall to wall investigations of government sponsored propaganda campaigns and demand indictments of those responsible. WRITE your state and federal Attorneys General demanding Al Gore and others conducting Global Warming/Climate Change racketeering and mail fraud operations be brought to justice, indicted, tried, convicted and jailed. Carbon is the stuff of life. He (Obama) who controls carbon, especially CO2, controls the world. Think of the consequences if you do nothing! For one, the UK is becoming the poster child for George Orwell’s “1984” and the US government’s sponsorship of this worldwide Global Warming propaganda campaign puts it in a class with the failed Soviet Union’s relentless violation of the basic human right to truthful government generated information. Given ClimateGate’s burgeoning revelations of outrageous government misconduct and massive covert misinformation, what are the chances that this Administration’s National Health Care sales campaign is anywhere near the truth?

  5. Blueridge says:

Everything is caused by Global Warming, cold weather, warm weather, hurricanes, lack of hurricanes, rainfall, lack of rainfall.

Now tell me some politician wasn’t involved. No scientist could cover the bases so effectively.

  6. gb says:

Anyone find a video where a so called climate scientist explains why the warming trend is other than an ouright lie? All I see is Monkeys who repeat the ‘Mantra’ “Man Made global Warming is still a threat.” But of course it’s all too complicated to explain WHY their data is accurate. Any monkey can say it, we need one to explain why the data is good, and why the code that produced the warming trends are accurate. The UK Telegraph payroll is likely inexpensive to tender as long as the price of bannanas are down!
